Vana’Diel Problem, Gil
Within the vast world of Vana’Diel, the currency of gil is circulated among the masses regularly. For some it is a problem to obtain it, others can obtain it with ease time obtaining gil. I will recall past experiences, traveling around Vana’diel to interview a handful of adventurers to see what they’ve to say.
In personalized experiences I have had great deal of trouble with keeping gil in the pocket. Primarially when I’ve gone out on an adventure, as well as improving on my culinary skills. Most noticeably is when gil I obtain is a respectable amount, another piece of gear is required and that amount of gil is reset back to a low amount. Typically obtaining gil back is effortless, but as the saying goes takes money to make money.
I chanced upon Eirwen MacKenzie; as she sketched out her problem and solution “One troublesome thing is getting gil. We all know and share that same problem, and want the gil fast. I solved my own problem by looking for a mobs or enemies that have a decent drop rate on an item that sells fast for a firm amount of gil. But when there are dozens of that same item already offered on the AH, getting your gil will be a bit harder, especially if you want to sell it for the same price everyone else does. My trick is not to lower the price to put it on by 1 gil, not by 10 gil, but also not by 100 gil, because I've had some times that this trick of mine made the item drop in value. My trick is to put the item on for about 13 to 23 gil under the current price.” (MacKenzie, 4-11-08 1:22pm).
Having another appointment with another adventurer Jif Whiffy, I asked him the same question; he informed me ”When I try to make gil, I do so by using a variety of methods that don't require much competition against other adventurers. For instance, fishing up moat carp that sell fast on the Auction House; farming bee hive chips in Giddeus, a place with a plethora of bees, which I then use in crafting; and also gardening, which just requires some seeds and pots and patience to watch them grow. The key to my success is to not monopolize one thing, otherwise, I could jeopardize the amount of profit I could normally take in.“(Whiffy, 4-11-08 12:08pm)
My final interview was with on miss Kiela Starcatcher, she approached me, sitting down for a cup of Windurtian tea, asking her, the same question, “Yes, I have trouble with gil. I’m a crafting addict, and I want awesome gear for my highly experienced jobs. I deal with that by training furiously and selling all the drops from mobs and enemies, on top of gardening religiously. With the three mule adventurers that garden too, allowing for one hundred thousand gil on a weekly basis, and that usually enough keeping me afloat at my experience for a few days. Still food and gear is expensive.”(Starcatcher 4-11-08 8:00pm)
I’ve learned today that many adventurers have gil trouble throughout Vana’Diel from the highly experienced to the newest adventurer on the block. We all have to start out somewhere and obtain gil from various sources. I hope this has been an insight to the problematic and answer to the financial view of Vana’Diel.
